What are our Socials?

Our socials create opportunities for us to connect and get to know one another. It’s a time set aside once a month to socialize, share our experiences, and learn from each other . Monthly socials are also a chance for our children to connect. We always encourage the entire family to attend Ds Connections' socials as we feel this is an opportunity for them to build relationships with their peers who have similar life experiences. We also set aside a few times each year to get together for a holiday party, summer picnic and yearly anniversary celebration!


Our next Ds Connections Nw Social is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 26th from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Spokane @ the American Cancer Society Office, 920 N. Washington St., Suite 200 (Click for directions).  (Please note that this is the Fourth Sunday of the month, for this month only, so not to coincide with President's Day.)
The Parents Advisory Committee has lined up a fabulous speaker and topic for us: Jessica Kaluza from Washington's PAVE (Partnerships for Action, Voices for Empowerment) group will be discussing IEP support: What are our rights?

Taken from their own website, PAVE is an organization dedicated to: 
• Help you understand the educational system for preschoolers and school-age
children.
• Assist you to find services in your community for your and your child or
adult with a disability.
• Provide support when you learn that your child has a disability or chronic
health care need.
• Help you as your child transitions from school to adult life.

This is clearly one you don't want to miss!
Just a note that, unfortunately, childcare will not be able to be provided at this location.

Future meeting/social topics will include: At home OT ideas for summer fun; and, Dental hygiene.  But remember, that's just a few of our ideas.  By all means, let us know if there is a particular topic of interest that you would like us to explore!
