The votes have been cast! The results are in! The surveys tallied! And by an overwhelming 70% margin you have spoken! Our 2012 Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk will be held on September, 22, 2012 at MIRABEAU PARK IN SPOKANE in association with the 2012 Valleyfest celebration!! This year's walk promises to be bigger, better . . . and jam-packed with an entire DAY'S worth of activities as a signature event of VALLEYFEST!!
The Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk (formerly the Buddy Walk) was developed to reach out to friends, family, and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and to raise funds for local and national education, research, and advocacy programs.
The Step UP Walk is organized as a one mile walk over easy terrain in which anyone can participate without special training. Hundreds of thousands of people take part in different walks from coast to coast and around the world each year to show their support for Down syndrome awareness.
This event is for everyone! We invite anyone who wants to show support for the people in our communities who have Down syndrome and to celebrate their contributions and abilities. If you have a Down syndrome diagnosis or you have someone in your life that has a Down syndrome diagnosis or if you want to be a part of promoting awareness and acceptance then we encourage you to get involved in the Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk.
This is an event for all ages.
The Coeur d'Alene Press has published two very nice articles about our walks. You can see them here:
